PETALING JAYA:
A former director of a public university’s education centre has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly abusing his power by spending RM1 million of the centre’s funds on personal expenses.

An MACC source said the suspect, in his 60s, had a “Datuk” title and allegedly committed the offences between 2023 and 2025, when he was serving as the centre’s director.

“The suspect is believed to have a stake in a company directly involved with the education centre and we believe he had used the funds for personal interests,” the source said.

The source added that MACC seized one company and three individual bank accounts holding about RM600,000 in total.

The suspect was arrested at the MACC headquarters while giving a statement at around 8pm last night. He has been placed under remand until April 19.

MACC deputy director of investigations Yuhafiz Salleh confirmed the arrest.
