PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had opened 47 investigation papers as of Tuesday on the dissemination of fake news related to the global energy crisis on social media and websites.
“We are investigating these cases,” the country’s internet regulator said in a statement today.
The latest case involves a man who claimed that some 329,000 barrels of diesel were sent to the Philippines.
Authorities later confirmed that the barrels belonged to Vitol, a multinational energy and commodity company, not Petronas or the Malaysian government.
MCMC has recorded the man’s statement and seized his device. It is investigating the case for the misuse of network facilities.
