PETALING JAYA:
A bus driver and a woman caught sitting on his lap while the bus was travelling to Johor have both pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in the Jasin magistrates’ court.

Magistrate Mazanan Sinin sentenced Arif Fahmi Abd Salam, 36, to a year in prison and Nur Adila Najwa Ilham Ameerrullah, 21, to six months in jail, Sinar Harian reported.

They were also fined RM5,000 each and barred from holding a driving licence for five years.

They were both charged with recklessly and dangerously driving the express bus at the exit to the Bemban rest stop on the North-South Expressway, southbound, at around 7.30pm on Sunday.

The charge was made under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act, which provides for up to five years in jail, a RM5,000 to RM15,000 fine, and a minimum five-year disqualification from holding a driving licence, upon conviction.

Adila was also charged with insulting behaviour by using abusive language on a 44-year-old woman. The charge under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act is punishable by a maximum fine of RM100.

She was charged with committing the offence in the bus at around 6pm on the same day.
