KUALA LUMPUR:
Barisan Nasional will retain its seat allocation formula for upcoming elections, with some adjustments to recognise the long-standing loyalty of “Friends of BN”, its chairman, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said.

Zahid, who is also the Umno president, said this is crucial to ensure that political cooperation is reflected through a fair and balanced distribution of seats.

He said BN values the continued support of leaders from all component parties and allied groups that uphold its cause, including the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma).

In addition to Kimma, Makkal Sakti, Indian Progressive Front, and the Malaysian Indian United Party are recognised as Friends of BN.

Zahid noted that Kimma and other Friends of BN parties had previously been given opportunities to contest, and that the same approach would continue.

“The formula will be maintained, with possible adjustments based on the BN secretary-general’s assessment, including allocating suitable seats to our partners,” he told a press conference after officiating Kimma’s 2025 annual general assembly at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

He said such support would be crucial for upcoming elections in Melaka, Johor and Perak. Although preparations began early, support from party members alone would not secure victory.

“Our machinery must move more aggressively to win over voters beyond the traditional BN base,” he said.

He said outreach efforts must begin now, without waiting for the dissolution of assemblies or the announcement of election dates.

On a suggestion by Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan to postpone the Johor and Melaka state polls, Zahid said it was merely a personal view.

“That is his personal view, not the stance of the party or BN,” he said.
