Ikram president Badlishah Sham Baharin said the organisation took a serious view of the matter and would cooperate with MACC in its probe.

Badlishah also stressed that the matter involved individual acts and did not directly involve Ikram, a faith-based organisation engaged in Islamic outreach, education, and welfare programmes.

“As an administrative step… the individuals involved have been immediately suspended from all positions and responsibilities in the organisation.

“This step was taken to ensure the smoothness and transparency of the investigation process,” he said in a statement.

Badlishah said Ikram was committed to continuously evaluating and strengthening its governance practices to ensure they are transparent, integrity-driven, and in line with the rule of law and Islamic principles.

Yesterday, MACC said it had arrested three men, including the deputy chairman of an NGO, for allegedly misappropriating RM230 million in zakat funds.

An MACC source said the NGO involved had received the zakat funds from the public which were meant to be redistributed to those in need.

The anti-graft agency also seized 18 luxury vehicles, including Porsches and a Mercedes-Benz, as well as properties worth RM11 million.

Other assets also seized included luxury watches and cash, while 33 bank accounts holding a total of RM120 million were frozen.
