Ayob Khan said various forms of action were taken against these personnel for integrity-related issues, including warnings, demotions, and salary reductions.
“We will continue to take action against such officers,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Crime Consciousness and Public Safety Society Forum at St Giles Wembley Hotel here.
“I am confident that if we continue this, we can reduce integrity-related issues.”
Ayob Khan also emphasised the importance of integrity, regardless of the agency or ministry one serves in.
He said integrity was the basis of trust, and without it, the public would not trust the police force.
“In the context of policing, there are officers and personnel involved in wrongdoing. The numbers might be small, maybe 0.001%, but the impact is still huge.
“We cannot dismiss it just because there are only a handful. It is this handful that tarnish the police’s image, even if we do 10,000 good things,” he added.
Ayob Khan also said that NGOs play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the community and the police, saying they could assist the police by channelling information on criminal activities for preventive action.
He said such cooperation was important as it would determine the police’s success in ensuring public safety.
