PETALING JAYA:
The shooting along Jalan Telawi in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday is believed to be linked to a turf war between rival gangs, says Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar.

The incident occurred at about 3am on April 22 following a dispute between two groups outside an entertainment outlet, Bernama reported.

Kumar told a press conference today the motive is believed to be long-standing territorial rivalry between the groups. He said police consider the case solved following the arrest of two suspects.

“One suspect is believed to have fired at the rival group, while another brandished a replica pistol before both fled the scene,” he said.

He said police have not ruled out the suspects’ involvement in organised crime.

City police chief Fadil Marsus said yesterday the suspects, aged 27 and 33, were arrested in Klang, Selangor, at about 11.45pm on Wednesday, and have been remanded until April 29.

He said police seized a gun with one live round, and a fake pistol.

One of the suspects has a record for 17 criminal offences, while the other is linked with five criminal offences.

Kumar said the arrests were made during a raid at a hotel, where three rounds of ammunition and a spent casing were also seized.

He said a 41-year-old man sustained abdominal injuries in the incident and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Police are waiting for the forensic reports to confirm the weapons used in the shooting.

The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for discharging a firearm in the commission of an offence, and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
