JOHOR BAHRU:
Malaysia is the only country in Southeast Asia that has not implemented fuel rationing, despite the global supply crisis, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said several neighbouring countries in the region have begun implementing such measures, with some even closing up to 400 petrol stations due to shortages.

Anwar said the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre is one of the lowest in the world, whereas prices in some neighbouring countries have reached RM10.50 per litre, others RM4, and RM6.

Speaking to staff of the Teacher Education Institute and Form 6 Centre students, Anwar said fuel rationing was not needed because of the early measures taken by the government.

Such measures included the implemention of targeted subsidies and the good relations with Iran, which have allowed Malaysian fuel tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Anwar criticised opposition members who claimed Malaysian ships did not pass through the strait. “This shows a lack of humility in seeking the facts.”

He also advised the public to understand current economic and geopolitical issues to avoid being influenced by inaccurate information on social media.
