Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said today the fugitive, who was listed under an Interpol Red Notice, was deported following Japan’s request for assistance in locating and arresting the suspect.
He said Kedah police initially arrested the suspect last year for drug and immigration offences, after which investigators discovered the person’s altered identity and false claim of Myanmar nationality.
“Scientific and forensic investigations confirmed the individual’s identity through fingerprint comparison and facial recognition based on photographs.
“DNA profiling was also sent to Bukit Aman’s DNA forensic databank, which confirmed a positive match with DNA records received from Japan,” he said.
The suspect was subsequently charged with the offences in Alor Setar on Aug 27, 2025 and sentenced to prison terms of between eight and 12 months, to run from the date of arrest or sentencing.
Kumar said the collaboration between Japan and Malaysia reflected the police’s continued commitment to combating transnational crime and strengthening international security cooperation.
“It also demonstrates that Malaysia will not serve as a safe haven for any individuals attempting to evade criminal justice proceedings,” he said.
