Mayor Fadlun Mak Ujud said the projects were selected based on traffic flow analysis and projected vehicle growth, focusing on areas with severe bottlenecks affecting daily commuters, Bernama reported.
He said one of the main projects involved building a new road and tunnel from Jalan Kiara 7 to the SPRINT Highway (Penchala Link) in Segambut to ease congestion in the Mont Kiara and Desa Kiara areas.
“To address this issue, DBKL will build an alternative route that connects Jalan Kiara 7 directly to the SPRINT Highway (E23 Penchala Link).
“This project involves the construction of a 562m new road as well as tunnel and bridge structures,” he said in a statement today.
Fadlun said traffic simulations showed the project would improve road conditions along the heavily congested road, reducing travel time and dispersing traffic flow smoothly.
He said the project would start in the fourth quarter of this year and is expected to be completed within two years.
DBKL will also upgrade the Seputeh exit from the Pantai Baru Expressway (NPE) to the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway to address peak-hour congestion involving traffic coming from Jalan Kuchai Maju, Jalan Desa and Salak Selatan.
The upgrade includes adding a lane to create a three-lane exit, as well as improving road alignment and bridge structures along a 600m stretch.
Work is expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year and will be completed within a year.
In a third project, DBKL will upgrade the intersection of Jalan 7/24 and the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) in Wangsa Melawati. The work is expected to begin in June and will be completed within four months.
The upgrading includes widening entry and exit ramps, improving junction design and enhancing road safety features.
“DBKL is currently in the final stages of finalising the design before submitting it to the Selangor state public works department for approval,” Fadlun said.
