Man fined RM1,500 for spreading explicit video of ex

PETALING JAYA:
A 29-year-old man was slapped with a RM1,500 fine by the Muar magistrates’ court today after pleading guilty to possessing and spreading an explicit video of his ex-girlfriend.

Magistrate Kartini Kasran ordered Fauzi Helmy Noh to serve four months in prison if he failed to pay the fine. Fauzi paid the amount.

Fauzi, who is single, was charged with the possession and circulation of the explicit video which was found on his handphone on April 22, Berita Harian reported.

The charge, under Section 292 of the Penal Code, is punishable by up to three years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the victim filed a police report after a colleague informed her that she had received the explicit video from Fauzi.

The video was recorded without the victim’s knowledge during an intimate act. Police arrested Fauzi and confiscated his phone before discovering the video in question.

Deputy public prosecutor Yasmin Piah prosecuted while Fauzi was represented by lawyer Sakinah Suhaimi from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
