Borneo Post reported that Yeo was on his way to meet with friends for a cycling trip. He was heading towards Saradise when a vehicle struck him and immediately fled the scene.

According to Harian Metro, a rescue crew found that the victim had died at the scene. The incident is believed to have occurred at about 5.40am, based on CCTV footage from a residence nearby.

The Kuching Division Cycling Association, who identified the victim, urged the relevant authorities to take firm action.

The association also urged motorists to “take that extra moment, to slow down, to give space and to be mindful” of cyclists. It said Yeo’s death reflected a reality that many cyclists quietly live with, that the roads can be unforgiving.

“That should not be the norm. Cyclists are not in the way. They are part of the road, be it commuters, athletes, and everyday individuals simply trying to get from one place to another,” the association said.

Bernama reported Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu as saying they received a report at about 5.43am.

He said police are tracking down the suspect and that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
