KUALA LUMPUR:
The Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has been named the recipient of the Sports Leadership Icon Award at the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM) 2025 Awards, to be held here on Wednesday.

SAM said this is in recognition of his vision and leadership in transforming Johor’s sporting landscape into one of professional and international standing.

In a statement, it said that as the owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Tunku Ismail has successfully built the club into one of the most successful and influential sporting brands in Malaysia through consistent domestic dominance and commendable achievements on the Asian stage.

Off the field, the regent has played a major role in strengthening JDT’s branding as a world-class sports organisation through professional management, effective marketing, modern infrastructure development, and utilisation of technology and sports science, it said.

SAM will also present awards to top athletes, para athletes, and sports writers.
