PETALING JAYA:
A former officer to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok will be charged tomorrow with corruption involving a project in the constituency.

Berita Harian quoted a source as saying the former aide would be charged in the Kuala Lumpur sessions court.

In March 2025, one of Kok’s former officers was nabbed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over allegations he had solicited and accepted a RM500,000 bribe.

MACC sources had said the bribe was for helping to approve an application for RM1.5 million in funding for the supply of interactive smartboards to several schools in Kuala Lumpur.

Two of Kok’s former officers, Edmund Teoh and Ng Yoot Kuen, were among 18 people who gave statements to MACC to assist in the investigation.

Teoh had denied soliciting and accepting a bribe, claiming that the allegations were politically motivated and baseless.

He also resigned from his positions in DAP and withdrew from the party’s central executive committee election in March 2025. He was previously Kuala Lumpur DAP publicity secretary.

Kok was previously reported to have said she had raised concerns in November 2024 about the rationale behind the Federal Territory education department’s request for, and provision of, smartboards.

The DAP veteran also defended her decision not to report her former officer to MACC after discovering the alleged misappropriation of funds, saying sacking the former aide was sufficient.
