In a statement, PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the win reflects public confidence in Vijay’s reform agenda which emphasises justice, social harmony, youth empowerment, modernisation, and opposition to divisive and discriminatory politics.
The opposition coalition also noted Vijay’s popularity in Malaysia, particularly among Indian youths, due to his background as a former actor as well as his humanitarian efforts.
“His political rise has therefore been followed with great interest and enthusiasm by many, especially in light of the long-standing historical, cultural, and linguistic ties between Tamil Nadu and Malaysians of Indian descent,” said Takiyuddin.
“PN wishes him every success in leading Tamil Nadu towards greater progress, stability, and prosperity.”
Vijay, a 51-year-old South Indian actor-turned-politician, was sworn in as the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu yesterday after other parties promised him support to achieve the required legislative majority.
His TVK party won 108 seats, falling short of the 118 needed for a majority of its own in the 234-member chamber.
