Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the seasonal transition typically brings lower rainfall and hotter, drier conditions across most parts of the country.
He urged the public to regularly check weather updates, use water prudently, and avoid open burning activities that could lead to haze and environmental pollution.
“During this period, heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms may still occur in certain areas.
“The public is advised to stay alert and refer to the latest and verified weather information from the meteorological department,” he said in a statement today.
The southwest monsoon phase is a seasonal weather pattern that typically runs from May to September, characterised by relatively drier conditions, though localised storms can still occur.
