PETALING JAYA:
A babysitter was charged in the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today with murdering a seven-month-old baby at a childcare centre last week.

Kosmo reported that no plea was recorded from Balqish Dzyhan, 28, after the charge against her was read before magistrate Farah Azura Saad, as the case falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

Balqish is accused of murdering Eiden Faheem Nor Syafiq between 9.30am and 10.40am on May 5 at a childcare centre in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.

The charge was brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty, or up to 40 years’ jail and no fewer than 12 strokes of the rotan.

However, under Section 289 of the Criminal Procedure Code, female offenders cannot be whipped.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Ainul Athirah Jamalullail, while Balqish was represented by lawyer Suraj Singh.

No bail was offered. The court set July 14 for the handover of the forensic, chemical, and autopsy reports.
