PETALING JAYA:
The transport ministry has approved an additional allocation of RM1.5 million to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to build and upgrade bus stops.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said the move follows complaints about the lack of proper bus stop facilities at several locations in Kuala Lumpur.

“One common complaint we receive from city dwellers is that they often have to wait by the roadside because there are no proper bus stops, designated areas or signage. We want to fix this,” Bernama reported him as saying at the launch of the Segambut Utara station today.

Loke said each bus stop costs between RM15,000 and RM30,000 to build or upgrade, and the allocation is expected to cover 100 bus stops.

He said the ministry had previously implemented a similar project in Penang in collaboration with the state’s local authorities.

“We hope DBKL will be faster than Penang. If Penang took six months, DBKL could complete these 100 bus stops within three months,” he said.
