8 Malaysians on Gaza aid flotilla detained by Israel

PETALING JAYA:
Eight Malaysians participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 have been detained by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) after five ships were halted in the waters near Cyprus.

Sumud Nusantara Command Centre director-general Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said the Malaysians were detained between 3pm and 6pm today, Berita Harian reported.

He said the IDF had aggressively approached their ships about 241 nautical miles off Gaza’s shoreline.

He added that the ships were in a legitimate international maritime passageway that was protected by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The eight Malaysians detained are Zainal Rashid Ahmad, Shazly Shees, Tengku Ahmad Taufik Nor Zahari, S Patmanathan, Amirul Afif Azhar, Syakirin Senin, Muhsin Zaidi and Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri Kamaruzaman.
