PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysian Air Force has confirmed that an F/A-18D Hornet aircraft experienced an engine problem after a air-to-surface firing exercise in Kota Belud, Sabah, last night.
RMAF said the pilot carried out the prescribed emergency procedures and decided to land at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) as a safety precaution.
The plane landed safely at 7.47pm.
“RMAF deployed a team to KKIA to inspect the aircraft, and it is expected to return to its base once all technical procedures and verification processes have been completed,” it said in a statement today.
It said operational safety remains its top priority in every mission and training exercise.
