PETALING JAYA:
A man who allegedly stabbed a woman in the neck last week in front of a restaurant near Alor Setar, Kedah, is expected to be charged in court tomorrow.

Kota Setar police chief Syed Basri Syed Ali said the suspect is scheduled to be charged at the Alor Setar sessions court, Berita Harian reported.

The suspect, a 32-year-old man who fled in a Mazda 3 after purportedly stabbing the woman the previous night, was arrested on May 18.

He was remanded until yesterday to facilitate investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means.

Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said jealousy and unrequited love were believed to be the motives behind the stabbing of the 35-year-old woman.

The woman was found in a car, bleeding from a deep stab wound to the neck, he said, adding that a sharp object like an ice pick, a screwdriver, or a Rambo knife could have been used in the attack.

Adzli said the victim was a single mother while the suspect was a divorcee. They are believed to have known each other for more than a year, and both work in the real estate sector.

The suspect has a record of causing grievous hurt to his girlfriend several years ago.
