PETALING JAYA:
Mobility Media Sdn Bhd, the country’s newest motoring platform, is organising its inaugural “Offroad in the City” (Oric), an urban camping and 4×4 festival, from tomorrow.

The festival, from May 30 to June 1, will be held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) in Selangor.

Oric spokesman Yamin Vong said the festival leverages the upcoming long weekend to offer outdoor enthusiasts a premier camping experience without the hassle of long-distance travel.

Monday has been declared a public holiday in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday.

“By hosting the event in close proximity to Kuala Lumpur, organisers aim to help participants minimise fuel costs and completely avoid the heavy highway traffic typically associated with holiday getaways,” he said in a statement.

Yamin said while members of individual off-road clubs traditionally journey independently to remote outstation locations, they rarely get the opportunity to network with other groups.

He said Oric offers a rare opportunity for diverse off-road clubs from across the region to meet and “build community bonds” in one centralised location.

Apart from the dirt tracks, Oric will feature a lineup of activities for the whole family, complemented by four dedicated on-site food vendors.

Land-Rover enthusiasts will also host an automotive boot sale offering rare parts and collectibles.

The event will also showcase six of West Malaysia’s most exquisite custom-built 4×4 rigs, while educational sessions and expert-led workshops will be held throughout the weekend.

“Oric will welcome electric vehicle owners for the first time. These participants will proudly display their vehicles in ‘Camp Mode’, demonstrating how modern technology allows owners to commune with nature in cool, sustainable comfort,” he said.

Yamin also said the Malaysia Bike Show will be held concurrently at Halls A and C. A major attraction is the ZXMotor’s Superbike championship winner.

Oric is supported by the Malaysian Four-Wheel Drive Association and is held in association with RFC International Sdn Bhd.
