PETALING JAYA:
Police are tracking down two suspects involved in an armed robbery at a convenience store in Nibong Tebal, Penang, which left a 27-year-old man injured.

Seberang Perai Selatan deputy police chief Norazmi Abd Ghapar said they received a report on the robbery at Easy To U Mart on Jalan Sungai Daun, Taman Bistari, last Sunday.

He said the victim was attacked with a parang during the 9.29pm incident and suffered injuries to his head and both hands. A video of the robbery has since gone viral.

“The suspects escaped with cash, several boxes of cigarettes and a sling bag, with losses estimated at RM500,” he said in a statement.

Norazmi said the victim was initially treated at Sungai Bakap Hospital before being transferred to Sunway Medical Centre in Seberang Jaya. He is reported to be in stable condition.

He said police began investigations as soon as the report was received.

Norazmi also said they came across a three-minute 18-second video of the robbery on Facebook earlier today.

He said they have since obtained closed-circuit television footage and are analysing it to identify the suspects’ getaway vehicle, which is believed to have borne a foreign registration number.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery.

Those with information on the case have been urged to contact investigating officer Tuan Noremifarahana Tuan Roslan at 04-5858222 or the nearest police station.
