
Yuko Takahashi of Japan won the gold in the event held at Jakabaring Sports City clocking one hour 59 minutes and 29 seconds in the three disciplines – a 1.5 km swim, 40km cycling and a 10km marathon.
China’s Mengying Zhong took the silver in 2:01:16s while Long Hoi of Macau the bronze in 2:01:28s.
Irene did 2:20:59s and Sue Ling 2:29:27s.
Twenty-two competitors took part in the event which started at 7.30am local time. They had to put up with the hot and humid weather, with the temperature reaching 32 degrees Celsius.
Speaking to Bernama afterwards, Irene said: “It was really tough with the hot and humid conditions but today being National Day I was determined to finish the race.”
