Seow Fung’s beloved furry companion has lived a life of travel and adventure. Bradman is a whippet, an English breed, who was born in New South Wales, Australia, and was brought to Malaysia when he was about six months old.
He currently lives in Penang with his human family.
Seow Fung used to share his home with two whippets, but Bradman’s buddy Cooper sadly passed away from organ dysfunction in 2019.
“So the only old boy I have at home now is Bradman,” Seow Fung tells FMT fondly, adding that the pooch is making the most out of his golden years.
“He is about 13 this year, but he’s still very active.”

Whippets belong to a canine group known as sighthounds – dogs that hunt primarily by sight and speed, rather than by scent and endurance.
The breed is generally known to be smart, affectionate, calm, powerful and swift – all qualities Bradman possesses.
“He is slim, extremely fast, and highly intelligent,” Seow Fung agrees. “His personality is interesting. He’s very quiet and not playful at all.”
Bradman is also a very protective pooch who gets “extremely serious” when he spots an intruder within the vicinity of their home.
“No one can get away from his sight and speed once they enter my compound,” his human declares proudly.

Still, appearances can be deceiving, as Seow Fung says Bradman is actually “super friendly” with people once he gets to know them.
“He only keeps up his territorial stance around animals such as reptiles and birds,” he says, adding that the whippet is a brave boy who isn’t afraid of anything.
Seow Fung reveals that early on, Bradman used to live full-time in the house. But when Seow Fung’s two daughters came along, he was only let into the house throughout the day except at bedtime.
Still, there’s no need to feel sorry for him – he is perfectly happy with this arrangement and is content just to be able to spend time with his human family.

“One thing for sure is that he doesn’t do tricks,” Seow Fung adds emphatically. “He has an extremely high self-esteem and will not lower himself for food.”
Another fun fact about Bradman? “He is very clean and almost odourless at all times,” he shares, “even after two weeks without a bath!”
