Meet Nini, the princess of Helen’s heart

After being abandoned at a shop lot and being the last one picked for adoption, this precious pup has finally found her forever home.

Helen Loo never thought she would have another dog after losing her previous canine companion, Kent Kent. But her oldest sister changed things for her.

“She found six puppies abandoned at a shop lot. She couldn’t bear to leave them there, so she brought them all home,” Loo, 35, told FMT.

There were one male and five female mixed-breed pups, which she decided to post about on social media, hoping people would be interested in adopting them.

Thankfully, all of them found their forever homes – except one. For whatever reason, nobody picked the adorable brown puppy with white patches on her head and legs.

“This puppy was very well-behaved and cute. I couldn’t understand why no one wanted her,” Loo recalled, suspecting it was due to the superstitious beliefs held by some about dogs with white patches on their legs.

But it all worked out: Loo, enamoured by the little one, decided to keep her and named her Nini. “She was the first female dog I owned,” she said warmly.

That was in 2015, and since then, Nini has been flourishing under her family’s love and care.

“She simply loves to be petted and knows how to ask for them – she will rest her chin on our laps,” Loo shared with a laugh.

Nini loves playing with toys, and enjoys it when her face and legs are cleaned with wet wipes. Like most dogs, she doesn’t like to take baths, even though Loo ensures she is bathed once a week.

As for her personality? “She’s generally friendly, though she does get fierce when she doesn’t know a person.”

With her family, however, Nini is sweet and caring, and is able to sense when her humans are not feeling well.

When it comes to food, the sweet pup enjoys steamed chicken and dog biscuits, and also knows how to persuade her humans to feed her extra treats.

“She puts on an innocent look and, again, rests her chin on our laps,” Loo said with a laugh. No doubt, those puppy-dog eyes would be hard to resist!

It hasn’t all been fun and games – two years ago, Nini fell ill, much to her humans’ dismay. “She suddenly couldn’t walk after losing a lot of weight,” Loo recalled.

Nini was rushed to the vet and, thankfully, bounced back from that incident.

“After her recovery, I began to notice that for some reason, Nini enjoys sitting in the sun more,” Loo revealed. No doubt, the precious pooch developed a newfound appreciation for life and all it offers!

Today, Loo looks forward to greeting her princess when she comes home from work. “She knows when I usually return and will get restless if I am late.”

Truly, Nini has brought tremendous joy to her human’s life. “I can never understand how people can abandon animals. After all, they are also living beings,” Loo added.
