Penang murder: Woman not pregnant, no triad link
Police chief asks for all eyewitness videos to be sent to them to help with murder investigation of logistics executive.
He said media outlets which capitalised on such rumours were “unethical”, as the information on such rumours was based on pure conjecture.
“She was not pregnant. At the moment, there is no indication it (the case being) involves ‘kongsi gelap’ (triad).
“We have not even released the deceased name as the next-of-kin has yet to claim the body. That is standard practice in cases like this.
“We have some leads on the case, so give us some time to investigate,” Chuah told reporters at the state police headquarters here today.
When asked about the victim’s husband, Chuah said the woman was married to an owner of an entertainment outlet.
Yesterday, the victim was shot dead while driving her car along Jalan Pekaka 1, some 10-minutes from Bayan Lepas town. Police believe two men on a motorcycle had pulled up to her BMW and fired shots at point-blank range.
The woman, a logistics executive, was believed to have lost control of her car and rear-ended a Land Rover, driven by a man likely to be in his 30s.
The impact caused the Land Rover to veer into a side road.
At this point, the woman’s BMW veered slightly and crashed into a porch of a house, bringing it to a stop.
An eyewitness video showed the car’s back wheels were still spinning at full speed, an indication the woman had her leg stuck on the accelerator pedal.
Meanwhile, Chuah said police were looking at all nearby closed-circuit television cameras for possible footage of the gunmen during the incident.
He also asked for all eyewitness videos of the incident to be given to the nearest police station or for those in possession of such video clips to contact 019-444-6521.
