The DAP supremo said he had not read any of the articles but was informed by DAP’s youth wing chief Wong Kah Woh that the winning entry, a book containing 16 essays depicting the DAP leader as “racist”, was illegal as it had violated the law by not displaying the names of the publisher and printers as required by the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (PPPA).
Copies of the book titled “DAP Bahaya Kepada Melayu-Islam Di Malaysia” (DAP a danger to Malays and Islam in Malaysia) were distributed at yesterday’s event held at the Blue Wave Hotel in Shah Alam.
“I have one question for the Umno information chief Annuar Musa, whether he would bear full legal responsibility for the ‘Lim Kit Siang is racist’ writing contest and all the books and articles which won awards.
“My second question for Annuar to answer is how could he launch such a book and whether Umno leaders are above the law?” Lim said in a statement today.
The contest which was launched in March, had attracted about 1,200 entries for the categories of articles, authorship, blogs, videos and infographics.
The book “DAP Bahaya Kepada Melayu-Islam Di Malaysia” received the top prize of RM10,000. It was written by a group of writers who chose to remain anonymous.
Annuar gave away the prizes to the winners, most of whom sent representatives.
Lim, who is also Gelang Patah MP, chastised Annuar for running such a contest and said it was also obviously something that the authors seemed to be ashamed about.
“Annuar’s ‘achievement’ deserves a place in the Guinness Book of Records, because this must be the only contest or competition in the world where the winners are ashamed of identifying themselves, maintaining their anonymity, while the winning prize was accepted by someone else on behalf of the author.”
Saying that he reserves the right to take legal action against the authors and publishers of the book, Lim also challenged Annuar to send him the 25 winning submissions.
“I look forward to reading top-prize winner ‘DAP Bahaya Kepada Melayu-Islam Di Malaysia’ and the other award-winning submissions.”
