KUALA LUMPUR:
The Prime Minister, Najib Razak, has urged the people not to allow the 1Malaysia Development Berhad issue to be an obstacle to the continued development of the country.

He said that when the controversy cropped up, the government had initiated investigations including directing the Public Accounts Committee to carry out hearings. The investigation report by the committee had been tabled in the Dewan Rakyat.

“So, what is there to shout about, what is there for dissatisfaction? So, don’t let us make it into something that will drag our development.

“It’s time for us to look ahead, to build a much better future,” he said when closing the general assembly of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress here today.

On Thursday, the bipartisan Public Accounts Committee tabled a 106-page Report on 1MDB Governance Management Controls at the Dewan Rakyat.

The committee recommended that the authorities investigate 1MDB’s former chief executive officer, Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, and the relevant parties linked to the management of the government-owned strategic investment company.
