Its chief Napsiah Khamis said Pakatan Harapan (PH) had allotted the seat to Amanah to contest but the party had decided to hand over the seat to Muda instead.
“PH should hold on to a winnable seat like this. We don’t know how loyal Muda is to us. Their loyalty hasn’t been tested yet, so that’s what we’re concerned about,” she told FMT.
Napsiah was commenting on a report that Amanah and DAP had agreed to hand over six seats to Muda, one of them being Puteri Wangsa. The coalition had won the Puteri Wangsa seat twice in the past.
About 50% of the voters in the constituency are Chinese, followed by Malays (39%), Indians (10%) and others (1%).
In the 14th general election (GE14), Mazlan Bujang of Bersatu – which was then part of PH – won the seat by a majority of 24,959 votes.
Napsiah said in initial discussions, Amanah had nominated Johor Amanah vice-chairman Suhaizan Kayat to contest the seat.
“We left it to Amanah to contest the seat because it is one of PH’s long-time component parties. Now, Amanah has given it to Muda and Muda candidates do not have any machinery, not even an operating room,” she said.
The Johor state assembly has a total of 56 seats. Nomination day for the Johor elections is set for Feb 26, while voting will take place on March 12.
