
In a statement released today, he said the victim filed a report after the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah.
The statement said the suspect pushed the woman until she fell and tried to rob her. He also punched the victim’s face and head before fleeing.
Rao added that police had identified the suspect based on details given by the victim and they were currently trying to track him down.
“The suspect is a homeless man, thin-bodied, of dusky skin, in his 40s, and has long hair that reaches his shoulders.
“Members of the public with knowledge of the incident are requested to reach out to the nearest police station to assist in our probe,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to seven years and a fine.
Meanwhile, according to a China Press report, the suspect bashed the woman’s head with a mobile phone 20 times and poked at her eyes, causing injuries.
