PETALING JAYA:
Here’s something to crow about – a Chinese New Year reunion dinner so mind-numbingly elaborate that it cost a staggering RM750,000 (S$240,000) for a group of 20 hungry and rather fortunate diners.

According to a report in Singapore’s AsiaOne that quoted Shin Min Daily News, word of the costly dinner spread like wildfire after a photograph of the exorbitant restaurant bill went viral.

The report said the group had gathered for the traditional reunion dinner on Jan 27, the eve of Chinese New Year at the famous Feng Shui Inn restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa.

Restaurant staff have however remained tight-lipped about the diners’ identities although it is believed that all the dishes they ordered were off-the-menu requests cooked up specially for the auspicious occasion.

Among the jaw-dropping prices of some of the dishes – geoduck clam costing over S$1,000, and 15 “special” dishes that ran up a bill of S$55,320.

There was also 42 servings of wild-caught empurau fish, also known as “Unforgettable” fish, that cost an unforgettable S$6,216.

A complement to the group’s extravagant dinner was a steady flow of alcohol costing a mind-boggling S$143,000 in total – two bottles of Chinese Moutai liquor at S$72,000 and five bottles of premium French wines totalling S$61,000.

Singapore media has reported that Feng Shui Inn, located at Crocksford Tower in the casino resort, is popular among mainland Chinese high-rollers, AsiaOne said.
