  • ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ (film)

In this 2019 feature-length version of “Dora the Explorer”, the exuberant titular teen and her friends head into the jungle on a rescue expedition when her parents disappear during a search for an ancient city of gold! An animated movie for all the family.

  • ‘One Piece: The Water Seven Chapter’ (series)

This multi-season anime continues with the “Going Merry” in need of repairs, prompting the Straw Hats to head out and recruit an onboard shipwright to join their crew.

Tomorrow, Aug 16

  • ‘The Chosen One’ (series)

Jodie, a 12-year-old living in Baja California Sur, discovers he has Jesus-like powers: he can turn water into wine, make the crippled walk and, perhaps, even raise the dead!

Will he answer his calling and fulfil his destiny? Do religious-themed series even last long enough to wrap up their stories? Jeng jeng jeng.

 

  • ‘47 Ronin’ (film)

This 2013 action-adventure flick follows the exploits of 47 samurai warriors who plot to exact revenge on a court official responsible for their master’s death. Any movie starring Keanu Reeves is probably well worth watching.

  • ‘City of Lies’ (film)

Driven by an obsessive need for the truth, a former LA cop and a journalist revisit the still-unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G.. (One period or two?)

Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker star in this 2018 movie that’s “based on a true story but with fictitious elements”, according to sources.

  • ‘Depp v Heard’ (documentary)

This three-part docuseries follows the infamous Virginia defamation trial between actor-exes Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, with Netflix kicking off each 45-minute episode with the disclaimer: “The footage of the trial has been edited together for clarity, allowing their accounts to be shown side by side for the first time.”

Expect a deep dive into the proceedings that set Hollywood ablaze and the online fallout that ensued.

 

  • ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ (film)

After ending up in the outside world, two squabbling pet dogs find common ground against a gang of angry animals preparing an attack on humans. This adorable animation features the voice talents of Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, and Eric Stonestreet.

While recovering from heartbreak, a screenwriter finds new inspiration when she makes an unexpected connection with a man via an old walkie-talkie. A Filipino romantic comedy.

  • ‘The Monkey King’ (film)

A monkey and his magical fighting stick team up on an epic quest, battling demons, dragons, gods, and the greatest adversary of all: Monkey’s own ego!

The latest adaptation of the Ming Dynasty classic “Journey to the West” features the voices of Jimmy O Yang, B D Wong, and Bowen Yang, among many others.
