Karyawan’s ‘Legends’ to raise funds for needy artistes

PETALING JAYA:

After making a round of donations with FMT to 50 artistes during Ramadan, the Malaysian Artistes’ Association (Karyawan) is continuing its efforts to raise funds for entertainers in need.

Headlined by icons Awie, Khatijah Ibrahim, Ramli Sarip and Rahimah Rahim, a fundraising event titled “Legends” will be held at Dewan Perdana Felda in Kuala Lumpur on June 2. The dinner and concert is aimed at helping those who might be facing health and financial challenges.

In a statement, Karyawan president Freddie Fernandez said all four artistes are legends in their own right and have devoted fan bases.

“Awie, Khatijah, Ramli and Rahimah have been around for a long time, and we are happy to welcome them to headline our event as they will ensure good support, and make certain we meet our objective of raising a significant amount for our less-fortunate friends in the industry,” he said.

“It promises to be a fantastic show as they will take audiences down memory lane by performing their hits from the 1980s until today.”

Singers Norshila Amin, Ezlynn, and Hairie Kool will serve as the opening acts. All performers will be accompanied by a live band from the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara).

On March 28, FMT hosted a Ramadan gathering where 50 artistes who were struggling financially each received RM1,000 to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The recipients included household names like Hail Amir, Uji Rashid, Norlia Ghani, Zaiton Sameon, Shima, Ali XPDC, Zaleha Hamid, Sophia Ibrahim, S Atan, and Shuib of the Freedom band.

A total of RM100,000 in aid was handed out to 100 entertainers and athletes, thanks to an initiative between FMT and an anonymous donor.
