For Liew Xian Jiong, Pumpkin and Donut bring him immense joy, thanks to their adorable natures.
One thing they two have mastered to perfection is turning on their puppy charm in order to get a morsel or two of whatever Liew’s having for dinner. And they always meet with success.
“When I’m sitting there eating, they’ll suddenly turn into perfectly good doggies and sit directly under me,” he said, laughing.

Pumpkin the Schnauzer is basically a “pig in disguise”, Liew said good-naturedly. She loves to sleep and eat, and not much else. Even when walking, unlike other active pups, she is only interested in answering the call of nature, then making her way back home.
This three-year-old is also the friendliest dog you’ll ever meet. While she’s cautious around other dogs, she loves being around humans.
Donut the Westie-Schnauzer mix is the complete opposite, however. Supremely confident, he makes friends with other dogs super fast, regardless of their size. When it comes to humans though, he’s quick to tell anyone off if he thinks his human is in danger. So beware, his bark is rather loud and menacing.

Obviously, he’s rather territorial, and marks every tree, plant and lamp post he encounters during his walks.
Unlike Pumpkin who prefers to lounge on the sofa all day, Donut, also three years old, can walk and run and play all day long if permitted.
Of the two, Pumpkin likes her “me” time, and detests public displays of affection. So, she’s not too happy when the playful Donut gets too touchy-feely with her. But when she’s in the mood, the two can play rough for hours on end.
Their differences go even further. While Pumpking is skittish, jumping even at the sight of leaves blowing in the wind, the indomitable Donut fears nothing… uhm except showers.

“It’s tough to get him wet when I want to give him a shower, he’ll play hide and seek in there with me,” Liew said, shaking his head. While he can be a handful at times, he’s the perfect angel when he’s resting.
Speaking of rest, when you cross your legs while sitting on the sofa or floor, Pumpkin assumes it’s an open invitation for her to sleep in your lap. She’ll walk right over and make herself at home, curling up like the best lap dog ever.
While the cute doggos both have their own beds, their favourite spot to sleep is still next to their human in his bed or on the sofa near him.
“Because of how different they are, they make for a comical but adorable combination in my eyes. I call them my teddy bears because of how huggable they are,” Liew said, smiling.
