PARIS:
Internet users have uncovered a small flaw that can cause your iPhone’s home screen to crash, simply by typing a string of four characters into your smartphone’s search bar.

While this does not affect the security of the device, it’s strongly advised that you not check it out for yourself.

According to several reports on social media, typing the four characters “”:: in the iPhone’s search field is enough to crash the home screen.

In fact, this simple code is enough to crash Springboard, the application that manages the smartphone’s home screen.

In practice, the home screen shuts down and either a black screen or the lock screen appears. Note that this occurs on both iPhone and iPad, so be forewarned.

Of course, it’s not a very serious bug compared to some and does not affect the security of the device in any way.

That’s likely why Apple hasn’t addressed these alerts, according to TechCrunch. It remains to be seen whether a fix will be brought to iOS 18, expected in September.
