Works of Van Gogh, Beethoven and Mozart come alive

Multisensory, immersive exhibition called ‘Art & Symphony’ is a great way to discover some of the greatest legends of art and music.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Imagine a collaboration between legendary painters Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) and Claude Monet (1840-1926).

Or that of iconic musicians Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). They’d definitely be the Avengers of the artistic world.

Sadly, none of these icons ever met in real life as most of them lived in very different time periods. But thanks to the “Art & Symphony: The Immersive Journey” exhibition, modern audiences are able to experience a unique harmonic blend of these men’s great works.

Taking place at Fahrenheit88 here, this exhibition purports to be an immersive fusion of art and music, which combines cutting-edge technology with brilliant lighting, sound and visual effects to pay homage to four legends.

“Our goal with this exhibition is to evoke deep emotions through the powerful mediums of music and art, touching the hearts and lives of visitors.

“By showcasing how artists and musicians from different eras dedicated their lives to their passions, we hope to inspire the pursuit of what we love, and bring beauty and light into the lives of others,” said Jeand Pua, the founder of FrameMotion, a leading innovator in crafting immersive and interactive experiences. They also created the acclaimed “Van Gogh Alive” and “The Greatest Artist” exhibitions here in 2022.

Upon entering the venue hall, visitors are greeted by four busts of the featured legends: from there, they have the choice to visit a variety of rooms, which they can explore at their own leisure.

Audiences are invited to interact with the exhibits for themselves, and interrogate the dynamic interplay between these legends for themselves.

The exhibition does not heavily focus on the lives of the featured fantastic four: you can look up Wikipedia for that. Instead, it mostly pays tribute to their iconic works, inviting visitors to appreciate them and craft emotionally resonant experiences.

Many rooms here combine the music of Beethoven and Mozart with dazzling colours and movements. Visitors to the Beethoven “Ode to Joy” section, for example, are invited to dance and twirl in front of a display screen, which creates vibrant visuals based on your silhouette.

A particularly fun room is the one based on Mozart’s unfinished “Eternal Requiem,” which features a long stretch of shimmering fabric. Visitors speak into an attached microphone, and the fabric moves and responds to their voices!

“Art & Symphony” is a wonderful place for photographs: now you can add a touch of class to all your selfies, by giving them the high art treatment.

One highlight here is a Van Gogh-inspired AI, which will let you see how a painting of you created by the great artist would look like: and don’t worry, there is no cutting of ears involved!

You can also pose at displays inspired by acclaimed paintings, such as Monet’s “Woman with a Parasol” and Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers.”

And if you’ve ever wanted to take a nap in Van Gogh’s famous “Bedroom In Arles,” well, this is the time to do so!

Stop by an installation based on the acclaimed “Starry Starry Night” painting, which uses lighting and mirrors to create a mesmerising, surreal effect.

Or enjoy live classical music performances, taking place at selected times at one of the event’s venues, which also features comfortable bean bag seats.

If all that great art and music had made you hungry, take a bite at the café, which features lovely backdrops based on Monet and Van Gogh works.

The exhibition concludes with “River Symphony,” an Augmented Reality display inspired by Impressionist Art, and a floral arch inspired by Monet’s renowned gardens at Giverny.

Overall, this exhibition is a fun way to spend two to three hours, and an effective way of building an appreciation of some of humanity’s most impressive artistic achievements.

Be warned though, you will probably be humming Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” to yourself long, long, long after your journey here is concluded.
