This serene escape called ‘Sun and Moon’ blends effortless elegance and comfort food, and is worth slowing down for.

KUALA LUMPUR:
In the heart of KL one casual dining spot strikes a perfect balance between day and night, sophistication and ease.

Step inside “Sun and Moon” and the room opens up into a sunlit dining hall crowned by a magnificent burst of yellow and white blooms – a floral constellation at the heart of the restaurant.

Located just a stone’s throw from The Exchange TRX, “Sun and Moon” lives in two worlds – brunch by day, bistro by night – and somehow makes both feel equally at home.

With a menu featuring pastas, galettes, open-face sandwiches, and yoghurt bowls, to name a few, this restaurant is the kind of place that steals you away from the city’s busyness.

Come evening, the same space transforms – the light turns amber, and the floral centrepiece glows like firelight. It’s a place that moves with the rhythm of the day – bright and easy under the sun, sultry and warm under the moon.

Start your morning here with the maple-glazed duck bacon with egg. This open-faced sandwich deserves its own fan club.

Three glistening chunks of duck bacon – thick-cut, smoky, and tender – resting gracefully over creamy scrambled eggs and sourdough bread. There’s just the right balance of sweet and savoury, making this dish hearty and indulgent yet elegant.

For something heavier and shareable, try the steak frites. The sirloin arrives beautifully seared, the surface caramelised with a light crust that gives way to a tender, juicy centre.

The sirloin sits in a shallow pool of mustard beef jus – tangy, and savoury. A sunny-side-up egg adds that silky richness that ties everything together. The flavours are clean, the seasoning spot-on, with no hint of gaminess.

Visually, the tiger prawn galette is beautiful to look at – a golden galette topped with scrambled eggs, fresh tiger prawns, and crispy shallot rings.

But the prawn bisque mayo that’s meant to tie the dish together brings a slightly odd note that doesn’t quite blend with the other flavours. The textures work, but the flavours wrestle a little instead of harmonise.

End your meal with the honey butter toast, which honestly could also be a great way to begin your experience here.

This one starts with thick-cut Hainan toast, crisp on the outside, brushed with glossy honey butter, and soft inside. A scoop of Madagascar vanilla bean ice cream melts slowly on top, mingling with ribbons of salted caramel. The result? Sweet, salty, buttery perfection.

The drinks here, under the guidance of Lee Zhe Ren, head of barista and beverage operations, are truly exceptional.

The iced lemon coffee will surprise you in a good way. A mix of strong espresso, lemon juice, and soda water sounds strange at first, but it works brilliantly.

This drink, whizzed in a blender, arrives frothy and bright. Each sip wakes you up instantly – sharp, refreshing, and perfectly balanced.

Or try the London Float – oat milk and honey with cold-brewed Earl Grey, topped with a scoop of milk ice cream that slowly melts into the drink. The result is fragrant and floral, with that familiar Earl Grey aroma swirling through every sip. It’s light, creamy, and slightly sweet – like a dessert that doesn’t feel guilty.

Ultimately, “Sun and Moon” is a serene escape in the middle of the city. With its wide brunch selection and skilled barista team, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to revisit.

Come back at night to see it transformed into something entirely different. The only downside? A RM10 parking fee if you’re driving – but beyond that, it’s hard to fault.
