PETALING JAYA:
Although Loki and Thor are feline brothers with vastly different personalities, they share the same talent for stealing hearts.

Abandoned as tiny kittens, their irresistibly cute looks instantly melted the hearts Amanda Tan and her boyfriend, Daniel Lai, who falling for their charms, took the brothers in.

One is mischievous in an endearing way, loving every bit of attention he can get his paws on. The other is gentle, content to watch the world go by before easing into it at his own pace.

“Thor is the more timid of the two, and whenever Loki hears him crying, he will check on him. Sometimes, we catch them grooming each other and it’s always nice to see that they still have that bond,” said Tan, 27.

“They have been inseparable since young,” added Lai, 27.

The couple came across the brothers one evening when they heard the distressed cries of kittens.

Following the sound, they found two kittens in a box, left only with a pee pad, a bottle of milk and milk powder. “I think they were about a week old and they were really hungry,” recalled Tan.

Despite already caring for three rescue cats, the couple took the kittens to the vet, and soon after, into their home.

“The veterinarian said the kittens were very lucky to have been found, especially since it was the monsoon season,” added Tan, a pet photographer and founder of Pawever Memories.

At first, the plan was simple: foster them, then find loving adopters. But when they couldn’t find any, the couple, who had grown attached to the kittens, made a decision that felt only natural: Loki and Thor would stay.

Today, the brothers fill Tan and Lai’s home with joy – and just the right amount of chaos! Their names, Tan revealed, are inspired by the characters of “Thor and Loki” from the Marvel universe, brothers with strikingly different personalities as well.

Loki, for instance, enjoys venturing outdoors, curious and full of energy. Meanwhile, Thor prefers the safety of home, where everything feels familiar.

Thor enjoys affection, happily soaking up cuddles, pats and belly rubs. Loki, on the other hand, prefers his humans to play and talk to him.

But the brothers share one similarity when they feel they’re not getting enough attention. “They pee around the house!” Lai revealed with a smile.

For Tan, it is precisely these differences that make the pair special. “They each have their own way of loving, and it teaches me that I don’t have to love a pet in just one way,” Tan added.

Once abandoned, Loki and Thor are now surrounded by love and safety. And in the home they almost never had, their story stands as a gentle reminder that sometimes, the smallest cries can bring about bright new beginnings.
