Wan Malini turns closest chaos into a career

Messy wardrobes can be frustrating, but for one KL entrepreneur, tidying up has become a source of income and 'therapy'.

KUALA LUMPUR:
In the rush of daily life, wardrobes are often the first to fall into disarray. It starts with small things – laundry left undone, clothes waiting to be folded, items yet to be put away – and then the clutter builds.

For Wan Malini Idris, this familiar struggle became an opportunity. Since last May, she has turned wardrobe organisation into a growing business, helping clients restore order to their closets.

The idea came about unexpectedly. “I stumbled upon a video by an influencer showing how a cluttered home could be transformed into a neat, organised space. It inspired me,” she told Bernama.

Curious, she shared her thoughts on Threads, where the response quickly revealed more than casual interest.

Encouraged by her own mother’s love for well-organised spaces, Wan Malini decided to offer tidying services through her brand almari.mili.

Today, the Kuala Lumpur-born entrepreneur is in high demand. She receives requests via social media daily, although she limits herself to just one client per day.

“Most of my clients are corporate professionals, busy individuals who simply don’t have the time to manage their clothes,” she explained.

“It’s not that they dislike organising – in fact, their homes are often neat and well-kept. But clothing requires constant attention.”

Without domestic help and with demanding work schedules, she said, it is easy for people to put it off – and once that happens, the pile grows quickly.

Before taking on a client, Wan Malini asks for a video of their wardrobe to assess the situation and estimate how long the job will take.

While the work may seem simple, it can be physically demanding. It also comes with an emotional dimension many do not expect.

“Some clients feel completely overwhelmed,” she said. “There are those who break down because they’ve tried to organise their space but eventually gave up – it was just too much.”

The work has, therefore, become a form of therapy for both Wan Malini and her clients. “Being able to help them reclaim their space brings a sense of relief, not just physically but emotionally.”

Currently serving customers across the Klang Valley, she believes demand for such services will continue to grow. Eventually, she hopes to expand her services throughout Malaysia and even into Singapore.

When it comes to organising, Wan Malini believes in keeping things simple and functional:

  • Keep frequently worn clothes within easy reach, ideally at the front or in accessible areas.
  • If you have hanging space, use it, especially if you’re a working individual who doesn’t have time to keep clothes organised.
  • Store items you rarely wear at the back of the closet.
  • Use vacuum bags to store winter clothing to save space.
