PETALING JAYA:
The topic of diarrhoea is not something most people want to talk about, although it has been a topic of discussion among Malaysians recently.

It is a malady many people suffer through silently, but Smecta Malaysia, a leading brand in diarrhoea treatment, hopes to spur more chat and awareness on the condition.

To that end, it is organising “Take a stand with Smecta!”, a free, hour-long virtual event hosted by Malaysian comedic celebrity Douglas Lim alongside Kavin Jay, Papi Zak, and the raucous Joanne Kam.

They will be discussing the disease in their stand-up comedy acts in what promises to be a night of good, clean(?) fun.

Lim – who shot to local fame in the late 90s with the sitcom “Kopitiam” and has since remained in the spotlight in musicals, films and stand-up – says Asians, in general, “prefer to do things like drink warm water or wait it out instead of tackling diarrhoea with medication”.

“We don’t want to talk about it because we are all, like, ‘eeyer!’,” he tells FMT.

“So let’s do a comedy show and literally talk crap. We’ll let it all out!”

Smecta’s range includes the caramel-cocoa-flavoured SmectaGo, in a ready-to-drink sachet form for people with busy lifestyles, as well as Smecta Strawberry for adults and children.

‘Take a stand with Smecta!’ runs at 8pm on Thursday, July 8, on Smecta Malaysia’s Facebook page.
