If you ever find yourself hungry in Raub, Pahang – this destination well-known, of course, for historically being a gold-mining town – you should make a pit stop at a kopitiam called Tong Nam Bee.
Finding it is pretty easy as it is located in the heart of town along Jalan Tun Razak, close to the one and only one-way-street circle in Raub.
On weekends, it appears to be popular with big bikers, which makes sense given that Raub is just over 100km from Kuala Lumpur, making it an ideal stopping point for joy riders.
The bestselling items at Tong Nam Bee would be its classic Malaysian breakfast of eggs, bread and coffee. You can have your bread steamed or toasted.
Chicken rice is also served here, which is a surprisingly good find, especially for breakfast! It features full-flavoured braised chicken with hard-boiled eggs over steamed rice, accompanied by a special homemade oily chilli paste that’s absolutely addictive.

The toast and steamed bread come with aromatic homemade kaya and a chunky slice of butter. You will find the texture of the bread to be perfect, no matter how you like it prepared, and will likely gobble it all up quickly. Top notch.
If you’re looking for a sweet refreshment, the three-layer tea – milk tea, coffee, and gula Melaka – will hit the spot and perk you right up!
All in all, you will certainly leave Tong Nam Bee feeling full and fulfilled before heading onwards to your next destination.
