“Anything to do with SUPP, you (have to) ask my party president (Sim Kui Hian),” Richard Riot told reporters at Parliament lobby here today.
The Human Resources minister claimed that although he was the party’s deputy president, he did not attend the last three central working committee meetings.
The Australian Broadcasting Channel on Monday reported that East Malaysia-based Barisan Nasional (BN) parties, SUPP and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) had received an undisclosed sum from an AmBank account which the report claimed belonged to the prime minister.
Najib, who is also BN chairman, admitted to receiving RM2.6 billion in political donations – channelled into his personal accounts – supposedly from a Saudi prince years ago.
The fund, government officials said, was meant to help BN win the last general election.
This was confirmed again today, through a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office that the ABC’s report was proof Najib had not lied when he said the donation came from the Saudi royal family.
