The Malaysian and Philippine police forces have yet to receive any information from the group which abducted four Malaysians in the waters of Ligitan Island on Friday.

“Nothing (on the latest development),” Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar told Bernama via the WhatsApp application when asked on the latest situation on the case today.

Meanwhile, a Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson, when contacted by Bernama, said they had also not received any report regarding the kidnapping incident in Ligitan Island waters off Semporna, Sabah.

In the incident at 6.15 pm on Friday, four Malaysians from Sarawak were abducted by a group of eight armed men while travelling in a trawler boat from Manila to Malaysia.

They were Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Hung Sing, 34, Wong Teck Chii, 29, and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21.

All the Malaysians were part of the nine-member crew of the trawler boat.

Five other crew members who were Indonesian and Myanmars were freed by the kidnappers.
