KUALA LUMPUR:
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia today reminded lawmakers to debate in moderation, without putting their health at risk.

“I understand that Sepang MP had health difficulties yesterday after a heated argument with a minister,” Pandikar said, referring to Hanipa Maidin (Amanah-Sepang), who was rushed to hospital shortly after.

He said this before allowing the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) (Amendment) Bill 2015 to be debated for the second time.

“It is due to the argument that he was hospitalised. Take that as a lesson,” he said.

Hanipa was rushed to hospital yesterday evening after he was found slumped in his seat in Parliament by Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran.

The lawmaker was reported to have undergone emergency surgery last night and is now warded in the intensive care unit of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Earlier, Hanipa had complained of feeling nauseous and being unable to move.

In his reminder, Pandikar shared his own health problem, which he had been suffering from since 2012.

“I underwent heart surgery in 2012 and have had hypertension since. So please do it (debate) in moderation, not emotionally.”
