Speaking to FMT, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh said he disapproved of the two parties squabbling over seat allocations, with neither PKR nor DAP willing to cooperate so a consensus could be reached on the matter.
“Quite frankly, the multiple-cornered fights between Pakatan’s own coalition members is certainly uncalled for.
“And I think the people, to a certain extent, are being let down by such irresponsible manoeuvres.
“It will erode public confidence. But we (Pakatan Harapan) will try to explain to the people on the ground and try to win back the public’s confidence.”
Meanwhile, Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen remained sombre over the tussle, expressing his regret over it.
“Whatever it is, it has happened. It is regrettable that such a thing has happened and, of course, we have our own reasons, and PKR has its own reasons for it,” he told FMT after a DAP ceramah last night.
His sentiments echoed that of DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang, as he apologised to the public over the matter.
“For not being able to ensure a one-on-one fight, we apologise to the voters of Sarawak and Malaysia.
“But whatever it is, we have to move on from here,” Chong said, alluding to Pakatan Harapan’s failure to keep their pledge that they would only fight their common enemy, Barisan Nasional.
On Tuesday, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said the party was willing to withdraw its candidate Abdul Aziz Isa from the Batu Kitang seat on condition that PKR withdraw from five other seats that his party wanted for themselves.
However, PKR has stuck to their guns, confirming yesterday they would not withdraw from any of its seats for the May 7 election as proposed by DAP.
PKR also said the one-for-five exchange proposal showed DAP was not serious about Batu Kitang to begin with.
