PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) today rubbished talk of sacked Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin assuming the role of Opposition leader.

This, said Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Deputy President Salahuddin Ayub, was because the coalition was happy with its current Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

“Sure, all the parties are happy with Dr Wan Azizah as the leader of the Opposition,” he told a press conference at PKR’s headquarters here today.

DAP National Organising Secretary Anthony Loke expressed the same support, saying: “On behalf of DAP, I want to say that we have full confidence in Dr Wan Azizah to continue leading the Opposition.”

Talk of Muhyiddin replacing Dr Wan Azizah started when Amanah Central Committee member Mazlan Aliman reportedly said the party planned to propose the former Umno man to head the Opposition pact.

To this, Salahuddin said the party had later explained that Mazlan’s statement was taken out of context.

He, however, said PH’s door was always open to Muhyiddin, along with Mukhriz Mahathir and Shafie Apdal.

As to the posts they might hold, that remains to be seen, he added.

Muhyiddin and Mukhriz were sacked from Umno last month, following their persistent attacks against the party and its president Najib Razak.

Shafie, on the other hand, resigned of his own accord, after the party’s supreme council unanimously decided to suspend his membership.

Wan Azizah, who was also present this afternoon, said PH was willing to cooperate with anyone who shared the common goal of toppling the Barisan Nasional-led government.

This included a possible alliance with Gabungan Rakyat Saksama (Saksama), a new seven-party Opposition pact.

“We are open to anyone and any movement that aims to topple the draconian government.”

However, anyone wishing to cooperate with the pact must realise that it had its own basic agenda that must be agreed upon, she added.
