RM5,500 fine for displaying car number plates ‘IJAN’

KUALA LUMPUR: A consultant was fined RM5,500, in default a month’s jail, by the magistrate’s court here today for displaying false registration numbers on her black Mini Cooper.

Magistrate Zuhair Rosli handed down the sentence on Aslizan Zabidin, 43, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

Aslizan, a consultant, was charged with displaying the registration numbers “IJAN”, which was not found in the Road Transport Department (RTD) system, on her car in Jalan Imbi here at 11am on June 26.

The charge, under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987, carries a maximum fine of RM20,000, or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.

During mitigation, Aslizan, who was unrepresented, said she was a single mother with three children.
