PETALING JAYA:
A RM25 million plot of riverfront land in Perth, Australia will soon be the site of a new three-storey home for the Sultan of Johor and his wife.

According to a BBC report, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar snapped-up the prized piece of undeveloped land in an exclusive western suburb for a staggering A$8.5m.

The Sultan, who is much-loved among Johoreans, acquired the plot of land last year, much to the chagrin of the local council in Perth that wanted to preserve the views from the heritage-listed Sunset Hospital site.

It was reported however that the local mayor was now pleased with how the Sultan’s “elegant house” would fit in with the surroundings.

According to the report the Sultan had been visiting Australia for decades with his wife and cherished fond memories of beachside holidays with his six children.

The riverfront home will now join the string of the Sultan’s other impressive possessions that include a gold Boeing 737 and the world’s most expensive Mack truck.

Despite his considerable wealth and the somewhat privileged royal lifestyle that he lives, Sultan Ibrahim does touch base with his people and has been photographed often eating at simple Mamak shops in his state and even paying for the meals of other customers.

In a Facebook message posted last month at the end of Ramadan, Sultan Ibrahim said that he was thankful for “good health, food on our table, beautiful homes to live in.”

He also acknowledged that other Johoreans may have it hard and that he and his family would do their best to help them.

“I am aware of the many other people in Johor who have so much less than us, and who lead very difficult lives.

“My family and I will continue to do our best to help them.”
