KDN not against protest rallies, says Nur Jazlan

Organisers reminded to get permission from site owners as required by Peaceful Assembly Act.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry (KDN) is not against anyone, including students, from holding a rally, deputy minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.

“We (KDN) are not stopping them as long as they follow the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, whereby the organisers have to get permission from the site owner,” he said when commenting on the TangkapMO1 anti-government protest rally today.

Nur Jazlan said the failure of rally organisers to get permission of the site owner for holding the rally would go against what they stood for.

“I hope these young people do not become arrogant and disrespect the law,” he said at the Malaysian Student Leaders Summit organised by the Malaysian Students Council of United Kingdom and Eire today.

Asked about the impact of today’s rally, he said their actions would not bring results as it was not the best medium to make a change.

“The people are waiting for the general election to decide and will not use street rallies to topple the government.”
